The young adult fantasy Children of Blood and Bone thrust Tomi Adeyemi into the spotlight, debuting at number one on the New York Times’ YA best-seller list. The novel was inspired by everything from Harry Potter to West African mythology, and it interpolates themes of colonialism in its story of a struggle to restore magic to the fictitious country of Orïsha.
Adeyemi followed her debut with Children of Virtue and Vengeance and has now wrapped up the trilogy with the release of Children of Anguish and Anarchy. Published earlier this year, the book was released in collectible editions, including a Target-exclusive version that you can shop below. It’s among a number of exclusive Target book releases from this year, including popular series like Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, and releases from authors like Colleen Hoover, in addition to the retailer’s deep roster of exclusive vinyl.

The Nigerian-American author was just 24 when Blood and Bone was published in 2018. The book earned plaudits for incorporating Yoruba culture and tackling themes of colonialism and racism in its fast-paced magic adventure. Last year, it was announced that Blood and Bone would be adapted as a film by Gina Prince-Bythewood for Paramount Pictures.
In the latest book, the protagonist, Zelie, is ripped from her homeland and forced to confront a new enemy. Her captor is King Baldyr, leader of the Skulls, who seeks to harness her powers. As the publisher notes tease, “[A]s Baldyr closes in, catastrophe charges Orïsha’s shores. It will take everything Zélie has to face her final enemy and save her people before the Skulls annihilate them for good.”
The Target-exclusive version features an intricate fore-edge painting with a red and white patterned design along the pages’ top and sides. The standard edition of the book instead features a gold-and-black fore-edge design. Anguish and Anarchy concludes the trilogy, and is available from Amazon, as well as exclusive editions from Target, Walmart and Barnes and Noble.
