Not all tablets are designed with the same purpose — or audience — in mind. Shopping for the best tablet for your kids entails a much different checklist than when you’re shopping for yourself. Before you buy, here’s what you need to know.
How to Pick the Best Tablet for Kids
Durability: If you give your kid a tablet, the time is going to come when they drop it. This is inevitable, so it’s best to buy a tablet that’s durable and ready to be handled by children. Some of the best tablets for kids come with wide-gripped, shock-proof cases that help shield the tablet from damage.
Controls: Another key feature is the availability of parent controls. For example, when you buy a kids’ tablet from Amazon, you have access to Amazon Kids+, which consists of 20,000 apps, games, audiobooks, and shows made especially for kids. In addition, you’ll also have access to the Amazon Parent Dashboard, which gives you control over what is available to your child. Parental controls are available across brands and help you make sure that your child is staying safe online and only encounters age-appropriate content.
What Are the Best Tablets for Kids?
As you shop for the best tablet for your kids, you want to make sure that you’re considering age-appropriate devices. If you have older children or young adolescents, you may want to consider tablets that the whole family can enjoy, like the TCL Tablet or an iPad Mini. With this in mind, these are the best tablets to add to your shopping cart.
1. Fire HD 8 Kids Tablet
When it comes to choosing your child’s first tablet, the Kids Fire HD is the perfect pick. In addition to being built specifically for kids aged 3 to 7, and equipped with Amazon Kids+, it also has all the features you need as a parent. Namely, the Amazon Parent Dashboard where you can control what your child can view, play, and access. Plus, you can set screen time limits — and even educational goals. The tablet is kid-friendly in its build, too. It has an 8-inch display size and it comes with a kid-proof case, which means it’s easy for kids to grip while, of course, being shockproof.
2. TCL Tablet Android 10s
If you’re looking for a kid-friendly tablet that the whole family can also share and enjoy, the TCL Tablet may be the best tablet for your needs. Its 10.1-inch high-resolution screen enhances your viewing experience whether you’re zooming into a work meeting or playing games with your child. This tablet is a great source of entertainment for kids, too. It comes with both Google Play Kids and TCL Kids, both of which offer a trove of videos, games, stories, and apps that are age-approproate.
3. UJoyFeel Toddler Tablet
When you’re shopping for toddlers, durability and simplicity should rank high on your checklist. UJoyFeel’s Toddler Tablet delivers both of these things. The 7-inch tablet comes with a child-proof case that protects the tablet from dirt, scratches, and drops. Its wide handle also makes it easier for your child to confidently maneuver the tablet on their own. As a parent, you can set screen time limits, educational goals, and filter age-appropriate content. When it comes to promoting learning, this tablet is an excellent tool. It has programs that help your toddler learn the alphabet, animals, and fruits, among other things. Plus, it has memory games.
4. Apple iPad Mini
Shopping for adolescents means that you can opt for a more sophisticated tablet that will last. The 2021 Apple iPad Mini is the best starter tablet for your older child or pre-teen. Its ultra-wide camera, Apple Pencil, and bionic chip can help your child do their schoolwork and explore their creative side. It has great battery life and comes with 256GB of memory. The best part is that you can even use it yourself.
