From The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, to appearances in Elf and The Big Bang Theory, legendary comedian and actor Bob Newhart spent decades making the world laugh throughout his comedic career.
A Grammy, Emmy, and Golden Globe-winning star, Newhart died Thursday at the age of 94 in Los Angeles following “a series of short illnesses.” Now celebs and former co-stars alike, from Will Ferrell to Jim Parsons, will pay tribute to the Hollywood legend with the CBS special Bob Newhart: A Legacy of Laughter.

Airing tonight on CBS and streaming online, the “one-hour tribute honors the late comedian with a look back at his 70-year career, featuring never-before-seen interviews, and his final interview from his home in Los Angeles,” per a press release. “The special takes an in-depth look at his journey from accountant to comedian to Hollywood icon, with rare behind-the-scenes footage of Bob on the set of his sitcoms and feature films, from the Entertainment Tonight vault.”

Newhart’s 2006 bestseller I Shouldn’t Even Be Doing This has reached the second spot on Amazon’s Kindle bestsellers chart for comedian biographies.
In addition to the special’s archival footage, the tribute will also feature interviews with friends and co-stars throughout Newhart’s long career in comedy, film and television, including Ferrell, Parsons, Reese Witherspoon, Jason Bateman, and Michael Weatherly, as well as give fans a glimpse into his personal life.
“I watched the Newhart show every week and laughed so hard every time Bob gave his signature slow deadpan delivery of his lines,” Witherspoon wrote in a tribute to her Legally Blonde 2 co-star last week. “Even his silence was funny. His reaction said everything the audience was thinking. I will miss his kindness and his humor… and his love for a great comedy bit.
