Mercedes E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain

A staple in the lineup for 60 years, Mercedes has redesigned their wagon for 2021, borrowing the off-road rugged look from their SUV line to create the E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain. With all wheel drive and a height adjustable air suspension, the E 450 promises to deliver off-road capabilities while keeping on road driving comfortable.
The interior is luxurious as you would expect in a Mercedes with fine materials, loads of tech and space to seat seven people for a starting price of $67,600. If you want speed, Mercedes offers the high-performance AMG E63S, which is a decidedly on-road version, with the rugged cladding from the All-Terrain version removed for a sportier look, and is a direct competitor to Audi’s RS6 Avant.
With a hand-built 603 horsepower twin-turbo V8 engine signed by the builder and an incredible hot rod exhaust sound plus all-wheel drive grip, this is a very fast and exciting wagon indeed. Refreshed for 2021 with a more aggressive front grill and headlights as well as updated interior touches, this sports wagon has a base price is a whopping $112,450. Apparently, speed is expensive.

Volvo V60

Volvo has abandoned the square boxy design of the past in favor of svelte and sexy shapes for their midsize V60 and full size V90. The sophisticated and modern Scandinavian design is the standout feature of these cars – they are lookers.
Both the V60 and V90 are available in two flavors: a standard car-height wagon or a crossover-like Cross Country version with a lifted ride height. Underneath the pretty skin in the top line T6 models is the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that combines turbocharging AND supercharging, very unusual to have both, producing 316 horsepower.
As is Volvo tradition, these wagons feature the latest safety features with active and passive technology. Base price for the V60 is $40,950 and $51,800 for the V90.

Subaru Outback

This very popular wagon with rugged styling combines SUV capability with a car-like ride. One could argue that this is more of a crossover than a wagon. With 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which is greater than that of many SUVs, the Outback is capable of mild off-roading to get you to your favorite trail or camp site.
The top of the line version has a turbocharged 2.4-liter 260 horsepower boxer 4-cylinder engine with a 3,500-lb. towing capacity so you can bring your outdoor gear along. Start your Outback adventure with a base price of $26,795

Audi A6 Allroad Quattro

If the RS6 is too powerful and expensive, Audi offers crossover versions of their A4 and A6 wagons called Allroads. With increased ride height and additional body cladding for an elegant off-road-lite look, the Allroads offer the premium build quality and technology found in the RS6 Avant without the monster engine and performance.
Luxurious and quiet, the A4 and A6 Allroads offer a relaxed driving experience starting at $45,645 and $66,945 respectively.

Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo

Porsche’s version of a wagon is the Panamera Sport Turismo. Using the iconic sports car, the 911, as inspiration, this wagon puts an emphasis on performance with a healthy dose of luxury thrown in.
This all-wheel drive wagon is an expensive proposition with the base 335 horsepower V-6 model starting at $99,350, going all the way up to the incredible 689 horsepower twin-turbo 4.0 liter V-8 hybrid with a starting price of $193,050.
In between, there are several trim levels and engine options to get the exact experience you want, as well as a whole host of individual options down to what color leather trim you would like on the little blades in your air vents. Cargo carrying space is not the biggest considering how large of a car this is, but if you want the sportiest of wagons, you can’t go wrong with Porsche.
