The FIFA Club World Cup will get an unexpectedly early start when Liga MX’s Club América visits Major League Soccer‘s LAFC to determine the final spot for the tournament. The match will take place at 7:30 p.m. PT on May 31 at LAFC’s home arena, BMO Stadium. The match, as well as the entire tournament, will stream for free on DAZN.

The Club World Cup will bring together the world’s top soccer teams, including Premier League clubs Manchester City and Chelsea, European giants such as Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, and clubs from Latin America and around the world. The United States is hosting the tournament, with twelve venues selected across eleven cities, including Atlanta, Miami, New York/New Jersey, and Seattle.

Two MLS clubs have slots: Inter Miami is the host team, while Seattle Sounders earned a slot as the winners of the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League. If LAFC wins the play-in tournament against Club America, they will be the third MLS team and will join Group D. The tournament begins June 14 and runs through July 13.

The unusual, but exciting, play-in match is to replace a slot previously held by the Mexican team Club Leon. The team lost an appeal against FIFA, which disqualified them under multiple-team ownership rules; Club Leon is under the same ownership group as Pachuca, another team that qualified for the Club World Cup.

As the runner-up to Club León in the 2023 Concacaf Champions Cup final, LAFC was tapped as a contender for the spot, while Club América is the top-ranked Concacaf club not already in the tournament.

DAZN is a live-streaming service with a focus on boxing, MMA, and soccer, and it will stream the Club World Cup for free.
