The hottest bag of the season isn’t a Chloe, a Prada, or even a Birkin. It’s the Trader Joe’s Mini Tote.
Earlier this summer, the cult-favorite grocery chain confirmed that its viral canvas totes would be returning in new colorways, though the exact drop date remains hush-hush. The bags, which retail for just $2.99, were last seen in stores in April 2025 — and sold out almost instantly.

If you don’t have the patience to wait in line (or battle it out in-store once they’re restocked — think Black Friday style), there are plenty of clever workarounds. Online marketplaces like Amazon and eBay are already filled with authentic versions, while Etsy sellers also offer hand-painted, custom designs. For budget-friendly look-alikes, retailers such as Custom Ink, L.L. Bean, and even Walmart sell similar options that nail the vibe without the chaos.

So what makes these tiny totes such a viral phenomenon? Trader Joe’s first launched them in 2024, and it didn’t take long for TikTok and Instagram to turn them into the must-have accessory. Demand exploded, and soon everyone from loyal TJ’s shoppers to social media influencers wanted one. While the in-store price is a humble $2.99, online listings now range anywhere from $20 to $1 million for a multi-set.

But here’s what we like best about these totes: they’re genuinely practical. The long handles make them comfortable to schlep over your shoulder, while their compact size keeps them from feeling bulky. They’re sturdy enough for work, errands, or a picnic — but also perfect for what Trader Joe’s intended: grabbing groceries. And since they’re reusable, they’re eco-friendly, which is a major bonus.
It’s important to note that all of the products on this list are either resale items or dupes. In an official statement, Trader Joe’s said, “They do not condone the resale of these totes.”
