The holiday shopping season means online shopping, and while you’re pulling out your credit card on various sites, you might be thinking about beefing up your online security. A VPN can be a good place to start, and Proton VPN is currently running significant discounts for its subscriptions.

You can get the VPN Plus plan starting at $2.49/mo. for two years, a 75% discount on the usual $9.99 monthly price. The Proton Unlimited plan, meanwhile, is available for 50% off for one year at $6.49/mo. The early Black Friday deal is available now through Dec. 1.

The Proton VPN Plus plan includes coverage for up to 10 devices at a time and access to over 20,000 servers in more than 140 countries. The Plus plan also lets you block ads, trackers, and malware while getting you access to stream TV shows and movies that might be region-restricted.

The Proton Unlimited plan, meanwhile, gives you access to encrypted email via Proton Mail, 500 GB of secure cloud storage, and a password manager. You also get access to Proton’s Docs and Sheets applications, which are a secure alternative to other online workplace tools.

So why get a VPN? A VPN helps protect your privacy by encrypting your internet traffic, blocking your IP address from being visible to the websites you visit. VPNs can also prevent your ISP (internet service provider) from snooping on your browsing habits and potentially throttling your bandwidth. VPNs can also provide additional security when connecting to public Wi-Fi. In addition to protecting your privacy, a VPN can allow you to access series and streaming services that might not be available in your region.

If you’re looking for an early Black Friday deal to keep your browsing secure, up to 75% off Proton VPN memberships is a good place to start.
